Busking.cash, a web app for street performers

Busking.cash is an innovative startup created to help raise funds for street artists.

WEBSITES

Requirements

Cashless payments have become an integral part of our lives. The idea behind the project was to develop a universal app for transferring donations to street performers. Therefore, our goal was to create a reliable platform for quickly and easily crediting donations to performers’ accounts via QR codes.

Analysis and proposal

We have a strong passion for art and technology. Both are embodied in the inspiring project BUSKING.CASH. It combines street culture and sophisticated technology to transform traditional payment methods into modern ones. We discovered that most people who regularly make donations often don’t have an app on their phones that allows them to quickly transfer money online. Therefore, it became clear that we needed to create an app that would allow donors to manage their payment collections themselves. We decided the best way to achieve this was to develop a modern web app that would allow donors to receive donations from passersby in just two clicks.

Functionality and design

Our team developed a premium yet functional design, thanks to a carefully crafted design concept and the implementation of an optimized interface.

We based our design on the «three-color rule»: a classic black-and-white design for the main content, and orange highlights for call-to-action elements. This solution helped direct user attention and stimulate engagement. We also developed a multilingual user interface for ease of use by international performers. We added expanded functionality for touring artists, taking into account various currencies, date formats, and units of measurement where appropriate.

Performers can access the service using third-party authentication methods such as Google, Apple, or Facebook, or by registering with an email address. They can then add personal information and media files to their profile, which will be visible to visitors. After logging in, performers have access to the admin page, where they can analyze payment statistics, filter by time, and transfer funds from their account to their personal bank account.

Account owners also have the option to generate their own QR code to print and use during performances. This key element of the project will allow passersby to instantly access the artist’s page, learn more about them, and securely transfer funds in just a few clicks.

Considering that most passersby will use mobile phones to scan the QR code, much attention was paid to the mobile experience using PWA technology. Content, especially video, was designed to display in a 9:16 format, adapting to any mobile device resolution. The app’s goal is not to distract from the art experience, but to make the donation process as convenient and quick as possible.

One of the reasons we decided to create an app using PWA technology was the service’s ability to work in poor internet conditions without the need to install an additional app. Many performers work in underground passages or metro stations, so after development, we tested the app in such locations to ensure it worked correctly even with the weakest connections.

Conclusion

We were delighted to contribute by creating a high-quality app that will allow talented artists to receive more support from their audience and develop their passion. Testing the app with performers fully confirmed our choice of PWA technology. Users praise the app’s high quality and ease of use, and they share feedback that BUSKING.CASH has increased the number of people willing to express their gratitude.
